Hopefully you were all extremely intrigued and astonished to learn the value of extremely large bracelets in last weeks entry. But on to bigger and better things. Now you may want to take a seat before you read this, it's that exciting. The latest trend in celebrity jewelry comes in the form of a very long pendant. You may now breathe again.
Just the other day I hopped on the 1 train in Manhattan heading downtown when I was accosted by a horde of NYU students. Now, if anyone in this country knows how to appropriately emulate a celebrity - it's the NYU (New York University, for you foreigners) and FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) students. They know what's up, that's for sure. But the best part about these youngsters is that they are designers-in-training themselves, so they often take modern style and elaborate on it or modify it.
Now the classic pendant exists on a long (usually somewhat thick) gold or silver chain with a large heart pendant. This heart can be decked out in bling, gemstones, or other materials. But I've even seen these pendants in the form of various creatures - such as dragonflies, butterflies, or even my favorite -- owls. And boy, they sure are a hoot (I'm so sorry)!
But as I mentioned before, these pendants leave so much room for creativity! They can come as fruit -- such as apples or strawberries -- or even with a large ring pendant that incorporates several shiny charms. From the fleur-de-lis to the classic lock and key, they sure are charming (I'm on a roll)!
Some jewelry stores even have exclusive, designer pendants that are imported from Israel and Brazil. These pendants combine tradition and contemporary by mixing pearls and leather, or crystal and brass.
Whether you're shopping for the classic conservative or the trendy hipster this holiday season - the long pendant gets two thumbs up.
Happy Chrismashannukwanzakah!
